Anusara
Inspired
Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga
-
Anusara
(a-nu-sar-a), means “flowing with Grace,” “going with
the flow,” “following your heart.”Founded by John Friend in 1997,
Anusara Yoga is a powerful hatha yoga system that unifies a Tantric
philosophy of intrinsic Goodness with Universal Principles of
Alignment™. Anusara Yoga's remarkable popularity is due in large part to
its uplifting philosophy, epitomized by a "celebration of the heart,"
that looks for the good in all people and all things. Consequently,
students of all levels of ability and yoga experience are honored for
their unique differences, limitations, and talents. This life-affirming
vision sets the basis for a yoga system in which the harmony and joy of
a tightly knit community is exulted. Not only is Anusara Yoga an elegant
system of alignment principles and non-dual philosophy, but it is also a
wonderful community of highly trained teachers and fun-loving students.
This community feels like it has the tightness of a family, yet the
looseness of a merry band of bohemian artists.
The Vinyasa -
or sun salutation - creates fluidity through a 90 minute practice that focuses on
stamina and strength. We recommend this class for anyone who is fit
and healthy - age and size do not matter - we say fit and
healthy -
and who has a decent amount of yoga asana experience.
Beginning Svaroopa® -
The asana practice, or the
practice of the poses, is done with the use of supportive propping. This
support provides the body an opportunity to fully soften and open in
each pose. Core tensions that reside in and around the spine are
reliably released with sequential passes that take you on a tour of your
spine, from your tailbone to your neck. The quality of healing and body
awareness that this Yoga brings to life are unmatched and invaluable.
This is YUMMY Yoga! Classic Hatha Yoga - Our Classic Hatha Yoga class is an integrative general class for almost all levels of students. Some Yoga experience will help you to appreciate this class, so we do not recommend it for those brand new to Yoga. This class is taught in a safe, noncompetitive environment and is designed to encourage each student to know and appreciate their own body through Yoga. Using breathwork and postures, the goal of each class is to gently strengthen and increase flexibility in the body while exploring the connections between mind, body and spirit. Each class will include a variety of asanas (poses) with plenty of options to modify the practice. Modification through support or alternative postures allows students to work at their own pace. Seasoned students will be able to challenge themselves and newcomers can learn and grow comfortably with this class. Honoring the Iyengar tradition (which focuses on alignment and support) and the Kripalu tradition (which ecnourages the deep release of emotions and toxins), you will find this class truly nourishing. Walk away with a relaxed, healthy body and a calm mind. Continuing Svaroopa® - For those who have been practicing Svaroopa® Yoga with us for some time now, we are happy to take you even deeper!. lack of connection to this area!
NEW!!
Grand Central Yoga - A Yoga class that will help you to
identify and work more truly from the center - your abdominals! It is
from here that we should be moving, yet few of us actually do. Learn
about the anatomy of this most neglected area and completely redefine
your Yoga practice... and your tummy!!
Kripalu Flow -
Interweaving breath work,
meditation in motion, yogic philosophy, and anatomy in each class, these
classes are in the tradition of Kripalu Yoga. Your teacher will take
parts of other Yogic traditions as well that will create a well rounded
class that will strengthen your body, quiet your mind and lift your
spirits. These classes are safe and effective for every age and every
body type. Meditative Flow - A meditative flow of yoga which incorporates styles of Kripalu and Viniyoga with the wisdom of Ayurveda. The use of breath and sound (humming, chanting and toning) facilitates the practice and serves as a guide to reach the body’s potential without strain. The sound allows the mind to focus on the practice and breath, enabling the movement to deepen. Eyes are often kept closed as attention is drawn inward allowing the student to journey towards the higher self. The sound infused movement encourages the body, mind and heart to heal and return to wholeness. Participants leave feeling a sense of peace, calm & well being. The basic yoga postures used are appropriate for the beginner as well as the seasoned practitioner. The body becomes stronger, more flexible and subtle. This form of meditative and mindful yoga is a nice complement and/or alternative to the many forms of "power" yoga being offered today.. In a city of chaotic energy, where everyone is rushing and overworked, many students look for a practice like this and find it is much needed.
